Control y prevención de la miopía infantil mediante intervención multifactorial: revisión narrativa

La miopía infantil se ha convertido en un problema cada vez más relevante en la salud visual pediátrica debido a su incremento sostenido y a las implicaciones, académicas y sociales que conlleva. Su aparición se relaciona con varios factores que actúan al mismo tiempo, entre ellos los antecedentes familiares, la escasa exposición a la luz natural, el tiempo excesivo frente a pantallas y las actividades que requieren visión cercana. El objetivo de esta revisión fue analizar la evidencia científica reciente sobre los factores de riesgo, las intervenciones preventivas y las estrategias multifactoriales para el control de la miopía en población infantil. Para ello, se revisó literatura científica publicada entre 2017 y 2025 procedente de bases de datos académicas y documentos institucionales especializados. Los resultados muestran que las intervenciones ópticas, como las gafas de desenfoque periférico, los lentes de contacto terapéuticos y la ortoqueratología, han demostrado reducir la progresión miópica. Además, la atropina en bajas concentraciones es una opción farmacológica eficaz y bien tolerada, mientras que las intervenciones conductuales suelen funcionar mejor cuando se aplican como parte de un manejo combinado. La evidencia también sugiere que aumentar el tiempo al aire libre, regular el uso de pantallas, mantener hábitos adecuados de higiene visual y realizar un monitoreo clínico periódico son aspectos importantes para la prevención y el manejo integral de esta condición. En conclusión, la miopía infantil requiere un enfoque integral que combine acciones en los ámbitos escolar, familiar y clínico, orientado a disminuir su incidencia, controlar su progresión y mejorar la salud visual de los niños.
